Military Sealift Command (MSC) has awarded a $17.3 million multi-year service contract to Fairbanks Morse to cover all MSC vessels with Fairbanks Morse engines, the company announced on 1 May. The award is one of the largest services contracts from the US Navy (USN) in the company’s history.

Announced at the same time was a contract to deliver eight FM/Colt-Pielstick diesel engines to power four frigates for the Royal Saudi Navy. Based on the USN’s FREEDOM-class Littoral Combat Ship, the frigates will each be powered by two 16-cylinder FM/Colt-Pielstick PA6B STC diesels, which are among the largest medium speed diesel engines manufactured in the US. Manufacture will commence at the company’s facilities in Beloit, WI, in early 2019 and delivery is scheduled for September 2020.

“Fairbanks Morse has proudly built military-grade diesel engines for over seven decades from our manufacturing headquarters in the United States,” commented Director Marine Segment for Fairbanks Morse, Andrew Smith.
