20 Aircraft to be Distributed Among Services
Fábrica Argentina de Aviones (FAdeA), the Argentine government-owned aircraft manufacturer, has delivered two Agusta Bell AB-206 helicopters to the Argentine Army, anticipating the delivery of three more in the short term.
The helicopters are part of a batch of 20 AB-206 Argentina purchased from the Italian government, where they were used by the Carabinieri. One of them was modified by Leonardo Helicopters in Italy and previously delivered to the Army, as the first modified in Argentina has also been. Of the remainder, three will be delivered to the Gendarmería Nacional and two to the Prefectura Naval Argentina (coast guard), while the others will go to the Army.
Modernisation of the helicopters included a major overhaul and new interiors, plus new Garmin avionics and an instrument panel with a multifunction display, as well as Harris new radios.
The aircraft will be operated by the Army Aviation School, while some, armed with M134 machine guns, will go to the Escuadrón de Aviación de Apoyo y Ataque 602 (Attack and Support Aviation Squadron) and others to the Aviation Sections deployed across the country.
