EXPONAVAL 2018: Wärtsilä Highlights Engine Room Simulator

Company Implementing Simulation Solutions Throughout the Americas

For the first time in its presence at EXPONAVAL, Wärtsilä is revealing its Engine Room Simulator in Valparaíso this week and is focusing on “simulation and training solutions” in its information for visitors, in addition tom its range of engines.

Whether the client seeks a single integrated system o a series of individual work stations, or wants to simulate engine or loading/unloading operations, Wärtsilä has a range of technically advanced solutions, according to load simulator instructor Luis Madariaga. The simulator can be either for a merchant ship or a warship. “What you want to simulate is loaded on the platform. It allows training in what the client wants. We are characterised by boat engines and those engines are now also being simulated in this Engine Room Simulator,” explained Mr Madariaga. The product is already installed in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Panama and Brazil. International regulations require examinations conducted with a simulator, necessitating familiarity with the system over time.

The company’s range of engines is also being highlighted at the show. They employ the latest advances in turbocharging, enabling use to be made of Miller cycle valves and variable rate closing of the intake valve, as well as efficient and environmentally acceptable combustion processes. The supply of equipment for naval fleets features, for example, controllable pitch propellers formed by a core, blades, a set of axes, a hydraulic system and a remote-control system. There are also fixed propellers featuring removable blades, which can be mounted on ocean patrol vessels that operate in frequently icing waters in operational areas with greater risk of damage to the propeller.

Wärtsilä also offers electrical and automation systems and integrated bridge systems for military vessels, among other products.
