Expodefensa 2021 – What’s New?

Contributed content – edited for style and length

There are now less than six weeks left before Expodefensa, the Latin American and Caribbean Security and Defence Hub, will open its doors in Bogotá, Colombia, 29 November-1 December, 2021, under the sponsorship of the Colombian Ministry of National Defense. And positive news about the event continues to flow in.

To date, the organisers have already registered companies from over 25 countries on four continents. Some of them – including Brazil, France, Israel, Spain, Turkey and the United States – will mark their presence with national pavilions.

The commercial process continues, and registrations for the fair follow similar trends to 2019, with  representation across the entire spectrum of security and defence supply chains for the land, air, naval, space and security domains.

Professional visitors from all continents – particularly from Latin America and the Caribbean – are invited to come to Bogotá to discover new equipment and the latest technological innovations impacting the security and defence communities. Official delegations from 12 countries have already confirmed their attendance so far.

The ORION Defence Ministers’ Summit, organised by the Colombian Ministry of National Defense for 30 November, will be held for the first time during Expodefensa 2021. It will offer joint responses to crimes related to drug trafficking, and to illegal phenomena associated with the maritime domain. More than 80 ministers have been invited to this event, accessible only via official invitation.

Expodefensa workshops will bring together military, governmental and industry leaders, together with expert journalists for one-hour discussions on various topics, such as:

  • Latin America, a territory of Safe City Technologies
  • SIGINT tools against terrorists, criminals, border problems in South America
  • Crisis Management in Latin America
  • Latin America, land of innovation
  • Protection of nature reserves

During Expodefensa, some exhibiting companies will not only present their products and services on the exhibition floor, but will also do so through participation in the various conferences – an additional opportunity for participants to learn more about relevant solutions. Among conferences already announced are:

  • Surefire: the world’s finest illumination tools, suppressors, and hearing protection
  • Colt
  • Componentes Electronicas LTDA: development of autonomous systems with robust software and artificial intelligence
  • EOTech: what is a holographic weapon sight?

Detailed programmes for workshops and conferences will be available at a later date and will be subject to modification – but they already seem to be very promising.

Health provisions

This 8th edition of Expodefensa will be held in conditions of maximum security and with strict adherence to the Colombian government’s health regulations. CORFERIAS, the event’s venue, is certified by Bureau Veritas in line with the SAFEGUARD international protocol, and with the CHECK-IN certificate issued by the Colombian Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

As far as the biosafety protocol of the host country is concerned, international travellers arriving in Colombia do not currently have to present a negative PCR test to enter the country. They only have to assure their check-registration 24 hours before the flight. Those who are not vaccinated have to present their purpose for traveling.

Exhibitor, visitor, and press registration is open at http://expodefensa.com.co

Nothing evokes the spirit and purpose of Expodefensa more eloquently than the sight of scores of uniformed personnel from the armed and security forces of several countries waiting to enter the show in 2019.” (Photo: Expodefensa)
