Expodefensa 2021: MBDA Focuses on Ground-Launched Systems

Aerial Platforms Also Receive Attention

MBDA is displaying an array of advanced systems at Expodefensa 2021 in Bogotá this week, to include a range of surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missile system mockups.

Of particular interest were the MISTRAL MANPADS and the MISTRAL ATLAS RC. The latter is a new MISTRAL system, based on a remotely controlled turret and equipped with two missiles and a latest-generation thermal sight.  The MISTRAL SIMBAD-RC already features on the Colombian Navy’s four PADILLA-class frigates. It is a primary air-defence system that allows remote operations, providing for highly effective and reliable last-ditch defence against suddenly-emerging threats under all weather scenarios.

The company’s LICORNE ground-based air defence system provides the capabilities for dealing with short-, medium- and high-altitude aerial threats.  Given that the Colombian Air Force’s main air superiority aircraft, MBDA presented a number of alternatives that can be accommodated in different aerial platforms.
