EXPAL Demonstrates Two Variants of Dual-EIMOS

First Vehicle-Mounted Mortar with Deep Fording Capability

EXPAL Systems conducted a demonstration of its Dual-EIMOS vehicle-mounted mortar system to high level officials of the Spanish MoD on 3 March, the company has revealed.

Conducted at the Retín training area in Cádiz, the event was attended by authorities such as the Chief of Staff of the Navy (AJEMA), the Lieutenant General Chief of Logistic Support Command (JEMALE) and the Commandant General of the Marine Corps (COMGEIM).

Two EXPAL mortar system variants participated in the demonstration, being operated by different units of the armed forces, highlighting systems interoperability: the new Dual-EIMOS version, operated by a Marine Infantry crew; and the EIMOS 2018 version, operated by the Legion Brigade.

The deep fording capacity that Dual-EIMOS has acquired, the main [distinguishing feature] of the system, has been extensively tested during the programme’s test plan, including the latest successful results during its disembarking on the beach,” explained Alberto Fernández Cuervo, Product Manager at the EXPAL Systems.

Dual-EIMOS was derived from the EIMOS 2018 in an R&D programme jointly conducted with SDGPLATIN (DGAM, allowing system development to be tailored specifically to the Navy’s General Staff Requirements, with important improvements in aspects such as versatility and precision.

Until now, there was no on-board mortar system with deep fording capability available on the global market. The new system also maintains the operational advantages of EIMOS 2018, clearly oriented to ‘shoot and scoot,’ through characteristics such as manoeuvrability, 360° firing without the need for additional supports and even while in motion, with the aim of providing maximum mission efficiency and survivability. As far as interoperability is concerned, Dual-EIMOS integrates the TALOS C2 system from the previous version.
