EXPAL Demonstrates Integrated Mortar Solutions

One Stop Shop Encompasses all Mortar Fire Support Disciplines In mid-November EXPAL demonstrated its full range of mortar fire support capabilities at the Spanish Army Alvarez de Sotomayor range in Almeria. Its ‘One Stop Shop’ solution encompasses mortar systems, fire control systems, ammunition, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for reconnaissance and targeting and tactical training simulators.

Solutions showcased during the event included EIMOS (the company’s vehicle-integrated mortar system,) the TECHFIRE fire control system, the SHEPERD-MIL mini-UAS for surveillance and forward observation and the SIMOX tactical training simulator. The company claims its integrated approach to mortar fire support capabilities is unique.

Mortars and Ammunition: a range of systems from 60 through 81 to 120mm, offering an excellent balance between weight and platform manageability. Fast positioning time, high operational availability and ease of operation and maintenance;

EIMOS: combining a long-range 81mm mortar with a 4×4 lightweight tactical vehicle provides users with a weapon system with the firepower and mobility required for mobile, asymmetric and conventional warfare operations, in which mobility and responsiveness are critical;

TECHFIRE: this mortar fire control system (also applicable to artillery fire support units) integrates a broad range of weapons and sensors to conduct complex ballistic calculations. It allows automation and acceleration of all direct or indirect fire missions, increasing precision and control;

SHEPERD-MIL: an autonomous mini-UAS incorporating day/night cameras and allowing automatic take-off and landing as well as waypoint navigation. It is fully integrated into TECHFIRE;

e-TRAIDS: a logistics and documentation management and training aid, based on three Apps and integrating EXPAL’s knowledge in mortar ammunition and 3D modelling technologies;

SIMOX: a high fidelity indirect fire simulator replicating all aspects of actual mortar operations. The objective is to increase and maintain individual and team skills and tactics at all levels.
