EXPAL Demonstrates Dual-EIMOS to Spanish MoD

Potential Integration with VAMTAC Platform for Marine Corps

On 15 December EXPAL announced that it achieved an important milestone in its Dual-EIMOS mobile mortar system on 26 November, when it demonstrated the system to delegates from the Spanish armed forces and Ministry of Defence.

Developed against a requirement expressed by the Navy, the Dual-EIMOS consists of an 81mm mortar integrated onto a highly mobile 4×4 light tactical vehicle, embodying an automated fire control system and the TALOS command and control system. The company believes the system will also be highly suitable for other ground-based applications. The demonstration took place during the validation trials currently being conducted under the UTEX experimental tactical programme.

Characteristics of the system’s potential evolution being highlighted by EXPAL include:

  • Robust, survivable nature;
  • On VAMTAC platform, capable of fording up to 1.5m without preparation;
  • 360° travers independent of vehicle orientation;
  • Increased targeting precision/integration of latest-generation inertial navigation units;
  • Interoperability with and through the TALOS C2 system.

Hand in hand with the DGAM [Spain’s defence procurement agency] and the Marine Corps, important improvements have been implemented in the versatility of the system, through an evolution that will offer benefits that, until now, did not exist in the market worldwide. We are confident that the system will be deployed very soon” explains Alberto Fernández Cuervo, EXPAL’s Systems Product Manager.

The company is continuing to focus on validating the new capabilities and plans to complete the extensive test series in March 2021. A brief video of the evolution of EIMOS to the Dual-EIMOS stage can be seen here:
