Dual EIMOS Mortar and Artillery Munitions Highlighted
Expal Systems exhibited its latest innovations in munitions and weapon systems at Eurosatory 2022 last week.
Among the highlighted products was the EIMOS weapon systems, currently in service with the Spanish Navy. This 81mm Onboard Mortar System was co-developed through an R&D programme with the Spanish MoD, to meet very demanding requirements from the Navy (Marine Corps) and Army. The programme concluded in early 2021, with an initial batch of systems delivered in December. The EIMOS system was designed from the outset for ‘shoot and scoot’ operations, providing mobility, automatic 360° aiming and firing without additional stabilizers, the ability to overcome steep slopes and, as a unique feature, deep fording without preparation. It allows the Dual EIMOS to be used in high mobility ground operations via naval landings. The Dual EIMOS system currently integrates TALOS, the C2 and fire control systems developed by the Spanish MoD, exploiting its demonstrated huge interoperability capabilities. The capacity exists for being linked to other FCS or C2 systems.
The company’s ammunition portfolio offers a broad range of rounds for naval and field artillery, mortars, air armament, medium calibres, fuzes, propellant charges, demolition stores, etc. The high performance of the range is especially evident in the field artillery sector, in which the company has significant expertise in the extended range family of 105 and 155mm, comprised of projectiles for area denial and non-lethal effects for illumination and concealment. Projectiles feature electronic fuzes for several modes of functioning, and many Expal naval rounds have multi-option fuzes also.
In airborne armament, EXPAL highlights the new high-performance 70mm rocket CAT-70 AP with the APKWS laser-guidance kit from BAE Systems, configurable in air-to-ground or ground-to-ground variants.
