Freeze-dried food takes a major step forward thanks to new range of dehydrated meals
The spaghetti bolognaise has a pleasing, slightly spicy texture with the pasta cooked to an al dente perfection. The Chicken Fajitas have a satisfying note of chilli and citrus, with succulent meat; and all of this from simply opening a sealed sachet and adding hot water.
European Freeze Dry has perfected these concoctions and are exhibiting them at the UK Security Exhibition (UKSE) being held in London between 28 November and 29 November. The company has launched its Fuel Your Preparation product line of freeze-dried dishes. A spokesperson told MONch that the dishes use no artificial additives and offer an impressive array of choice. The range is indeed extensive, from sweet and sour chicken, to macaroni cheese, and beef stew and potatoes. Breakfast dishes are available such as porridge and scrambled eggs and cheese. Halal, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free choices also form part of the range.
The firm is aiming these products at the military and Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HADR) markets. Each meal contains between 500 and 700 calories of a person’s recommended daily intake. The sachets stay fresh for seven years, while the tins, which can feed between six and eight people, remain fresh for up to 25 years. Alongside the appetite the firm is seeing from the military and HADR communities, it is seeing a growing public demand from people concerned about interruptions to food suppliers in the event of natural or human-perpetrated calamities.
