Photonis presents its latest digital image intensifier sensors, the EBCMOS 4MPX

The EBCMOS 4MPX is an extremely low noise sensor designed for mobility purposes under any low light conditions, which can be integrated into imaging systems such as helmet mounted systems, weapon sights or vehicle platforms. Amongst its key attributes is the fact that it allows up to 180 frame per second (fps) resolution, which gives it an operational range from full moon to overcast skies. It also has a low power consumption of less than 600 mW.

The EBCMOS, like all sensors from Photonis, can also be integrated to systems in naval platforms. “These sensors can capture a lot of light as well as a high rate of fps,” Rick Wildschut, Business Development Manager for Photonis, told MONCh.

This is critical for ships carrying out search and rescue (SAR) or anti-piracy missions: “In those kinds of missions you want to be able to see the features of people on the ships to understand as fast as possible what action you need to take; our sensors are ideal for that,” Mr. Wildschut continued. Because there is the option to not use infrared, systems using EBCMOS cannot be seen by night-vision goggles, thus also increasing undetectability.

Finally, the fact that EBCMOS sensors also allow to see images allowing ship crews to know which direction a boat they are following/targeting is going (red or green for port or starboard), thus facilitating anticipation.

“As we realise the number of advantages our sensors, such as the EBCMOS 4MPX, offer to our naval customers, we want to expand our business in that direction,” concluded Mr. Wildschut; “We are also seeking to increase the resolution of our images.”

EBCMOS 4MPX is production ready and full production of the first batch will begin early 2019.
