Eurosatory 2018: FFG to Show Modern Armoured Systems

PMMC G5 and WiSENT 2 exhibited in AEV configuration

German company FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG) is going to present itself at this year’s Eurosatory, next week in Paris, France, with innovative solutions in the field of special armoured vehicles.

The focus of interest is on the PMMC G5 multirole support vehicle and the WiSENT 2 multi-functional platform.

WiSENT 2 is already in use in several countries, some of which already had a functioning supply and service chain prior to acquisition due to an existing Leopard 2 usage. This is an advantage when operating the WiSENT 2, as it builds on the proven base of the renowned main battle tank. The customers’ systems were either delivered as Armoured Engineer Vehicles (AEV) and / or Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARV), but thanks to its flexible design concept, the configuration can be exchanged on the vehicle within a few hours. Therefore, it is possible within a short time to transform the state-of-the-art armoured engineer tank – with a modern hinged arm excavator and a special high-performance dozer blade for more than 260 cubic meters of earth movements per hour – in a full armoured recovery tank. With its crane system, the tank is able to lift loads of up to 32 t under armoured protection or pull up to 40 t by winch in a single pass. The availability of various attachments, such as full-width mine ploughs or for the use as a bridge layer, round off the overall concept. The German Bundeswehr is actually considering WiSENT 2 as a potential successor to the aging armoured engineer Vehicle DACHS.

The safety of the crew and the variability are as well conceptual cornerstones of the multirole PMMC G5. FFG offers a variety of mission modules and variants for this protected support vehicle in order to provide the user always with the perfect configuration for the mission. The use of numerous MOTS and COTS products – as well as a very robust vehicle design combined with a simple maintenance and service concept – make PMMC G5 a modern solution with exceptionally low life cycle costs. Moreover, it set new standards in its weight class concerning mine protection already during the development phase. The ballistic protection can be easily upgraded to the desired level by optional add-on armour if required.

PMMC G5 successfully proved its performance in the extreme conditions of the desert and deep snow. For those and other reasons, it forms the base of the new ACSV (Armoured Combat Support Vehicle) the Norwegian Defense Material Agency (NDMA) has recently commissioned FFG with its construction and delivery. The German tank manufacturer was able to prevail against the international competition in this project by innovative approaches in the areas of functionality, modularity and lifecycle management.

Both PMMC G5 and WiSENT 2 are exhibited in AEV configuration – on stand #K658 in hall 6.
