Greater Precision, Faster and More Cost-effective
At Eurosatory EXPAL is offering visitors to its stand a look at the latest configuration of the EIMOS vehicle-mounted mortar system.
The latest updates applied to the 81mm mortar (which is intercangeable with a 60mm calibre weapon) focus on achieving greater precision and effectiveness, a faster speed of operation and lower life-cycle costs, according to the company.
Mounted on a 4×4 vehicle, EIMOS provides high mobility, greater safety (through the reduction of manoeuvring time) and efficiency by integrating a ballistic computer, an automatic aiming system and a command and control system. The net result is a significant increase in the quality and efficiency of indirect fire support operations.
Fully configurable and adaptable, EIMOS’ hydro-pneumatic recoil absorption system transmits only a fraction of the recoil energy to the vehicle, reducing mechanical impact and the need for any additional stabilisation. The system forms a key component of EXPAL’s One-Stop Shopsolution, intended to cover all indirect fire support requirements: mortar (60, 81 or 120mm); fire control (TECHFIRE); surveillance (SHEPHERD-MIL UAS); and tactical training simulator )eSIMOX).
The system “has brought improved accuracy and effectiveness in aiming, faster deployment (less than 20 seconds), and navigation without the need for GPS. Furthermore, the company has put a lot of effort into bolstering the systems and equipment, extending their working life, increasing their maintainability and reducing the cost of their life cycle,” explained EXPAL’s Systems Product Manager, Alberto Fernández.
