Eurosatory 2018: CMI Launches CPWS Gen 2

Lightweight Multi-role Turret Offers Flexibility and Mobility

In response to evolving operational requirements, CMI Defence is highlighting the flexible, multi-mission capabilities of its new concept protected, light and multi-role turret, the CPWS Gen 2, at Eurosatory in Paris this week.

In addition to the advantages of the original Cockerill Protected Weapon Station (CPWS), particularly in terms of crew protection during reloading the main weapon, the CPWS Gen 2 offers an ability for mission-specific configuration thanks to its unique hatch.

Four configurations are available: a fully closed hatch allows the crew to operate in a hostile environment with a maximum level of protection; an elevated hatch allows the crew to perform 360° direct observation manoeuvres and, if necessary, allows for the use of individual weapons; with a large open hatch the crew is able to evacuate the system quickly and securely; complete removal of the hatch allows the crew to patrol in an exposed position, ideally for operations other than war.

Moreover, the versatility of the CPWS Gen 2 is reinforced by its ability to integrate different main weapons, though it is designed specifically to accommodate M242 25mm and M230LF 30mm guns.

The CPWS Gen 2 retains its predecessor’s advantages: it is remotely operated from the vehicle, allows for reloading under armour and, given its light weight,  can be integrated on all types of 4×4, 6×6, 8×8 and tracked chassis.

“With this new concept, CMI Defence proves once again its ability to present new ideas to the market, which can change their approach to the equipment needed to perform military operations. After the successful Cockerill 3000 series modular turret, we believe that our multi-role turret concept, which combines light weight, versatility and protection, will meet the evolving needs of land forces in terms of flexibility and mobility,” observed company President, Thierry Renaudin.
