Company is positioning itself to be ‘5G ready’ in the United Kingdom

Speaking during the Milipol exhibition being held in Paris between 21st and 23rd November, Eskan outlined the company’s plans regarding its future Signals and Communications Intelligence (SIGINT/COMINT) and jamming offerings.

Officials from the company disclosed to MONS that had recently completed six years of development work on jamming waveforms in preparation for the introduction of fifth generation or so-called ‘5G’ cellular telephony in the coming years. Although no timeline has yet been established regarding the introduction of 5G into the UK, the firm stated that it expects to be able to offer several SIGINT/COMINT products capable of gathering intelligence regarding 5G devices, and also jamming such devices as soon as the go-ahead for the 5G rollout is given.

The company continued that this go-ahead would be contingent on the UK government making frequencies available via auction which can be used by cell phone service providers domestically. Eskan added that it expects the UK government to detail when such auctions will be held in early 2018. It continued that, compared to previous cell phone protocols, 5G has significant differences in terms of transmission protocols, hence the need for the development of new jamming waveforms.
