Complete Design and Integration Management
Aerial reconnaissance and surveillance form part of the Bundeswehr’s capabilities required to fulfil its role in national and collective defence, security and crisis management. To this end, the Bundeswehr inked a contract with Rafael Advanced Defence Systems in June for the delivery of up to five Ground Exploitation Systems (GES) that form part of the RecceLite aerial reconnaissance system in service with the Luftwaffe.
The GES comprises a number of 20ft ISO containers housing the IT equipment required for image analysis and evaluation, as well as the air-conditioning and power generation equipment required for worldwide deployment. The IT systems will be designed to accommodate multiple levels of security and the image analysis and exploitation systems developed in such a manner as to allow for data to be derived from Tornado, Eurofighter or unmanned aircraft platforms. The contract also stipulates that initial systems are to feature partial and adaptive ballistic protection.
Rafael has selected ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH as the main subcontractor for this procurement project. Based on its proven systems integration expertise in numerous projects, as well as its comprehensive domain knowledge, ESG will be responsible for the design, the entire procurement and delivery of the container systems, including the complete integration of the IT, air conditioning and power generation units. In addition, ESG is responsible for the Bundeswehr-specific documentation, a wide range of logistics services and the supply of spare parts.
