Innovatiing and Leveraging Cutting-Edge Technologies
Highlighting its cutting-edge technologies and innovative capabilities, Escribano Mechanical & Engineering (EM&E) is participating in two of the projects included in the EU’s European Defence Fund (EDF) 2021 call, announced in July.
HYDEF [Hypersonic European Defence Interceptor] is a flagship project of the 2021 call, and has been funded to the tune of €100 million – the largest grant for any EDF project to date. It aims to develop an interceptor solution for hypersonic and manoeuvrable ballistic missiles and other threats operating in the lower atmosphere. Capable of operating at a variety of altitudes, the interceptor will feature a novel aerodynamic control actuation system to enable high manoeuvrability and highly agile guidance: it will also incorporate advanced sensor and tracking systems.
FAMOUS II (the second phase of the Future Armoured Highly Mobile European Armoured Systems programme) is funded with almost €95 million to define and develop technologies for armoured vehicles to improve their effectiveness, capabilities and survivability in complex environments.
EM&E is also participating in two further European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) projects: the JEY C-UAS programme, aimed at joint development of an advanced counter-UAS solution, and e-COLORS, which seeks to develop the next generation of tube artillery and multiple rocket launchers.
As a leading player in Spain’s defence and high-tech industries, EM&E also collaborates with national-level organisations aimed at improving national capability and resilience. TESS Defence was created to manufacture the new Dragón 8×8 combat vehicle, while the SMS consortium promotes R&D and innovation in high performance guided munitions programmes. EM&E is committed to ensuring such projects bring Spain measurable advantages at both national and international levels.
