Escribano to Develop Swarm UAS

LISS Offers Unique Individual and Group Intelligence Capabilities

The Spanish Ministry of Defence has contracted Escribano Mechanical and Engineering to develop an autonomous, multiplatform swarm system of UAS for ISTAR and SAR missions, the company announced on 4 January.

Falling under Phase II of Spain’s RAPAZ programme, the contract contemplates the development of software for an experimental swarm system of autonomous UAS, to fulfil multiple roles, mainly ISTAR, SAR and loitering/strike missions. This technology can be used with military platforms such as the DRAGON 8×8 armoured vehicle, from which they would operate at a range of 5-10km and could provide loitering or attack capabilities against ground targets.

Equipped with cutting-edge artificial intelligence, the Long Range Intelligent Security System (LISS) is the only drone swarm system that provides individual and group intelligence for autonomous mission development. The swarm is controlled by a single operator and its behaviour can be adapted to events as the mission proceeds.

The technology has both military and civil applications, to include force protection, survivor SAR for disasters such as earthquakes, control of toxic spills, monitoring fires, agricultural monitoring or transport.
