ST Engineering publishes its book, Engineering with Passion, to celebrate its 50th anniversary
To celebrate its 50th Anniversary this year, ST Engineering launched its book Engineering With Passion. The Golden Jubilee Commemorative Book follows on from earlier chronicles, Towards Tomorrow and Under One Sun respectively launched to celebrate Singapore Technologies’ 30th and ST Engineering’s 40th, and is a collection of stories of 50 years of innovative engineering across the Group’s business and alongside Singapore’s growth as a nation.
Told from the perspective of the people of ST Engineering, the book tells the story of how the Singapore brand established itself locally and internationally with the aim of developing world-class, innovative engineering-based solutions. The foreword, contributed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, also carries a message by Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Mr Teo Chee Hean, who launched the Golden Jubilee Commemorative Book on 4 August in conjunction with ST Engineering’s National Day Observance Ceremony 2017.
There are seven chapters in the book. Starting with the drive of “People and Purpose”, the book subsequently highlights the conviction of the “Ambitions and Aspirations” that have led to successful engineering solutions implemented both internationally and locally. It moves on to discuss the breadth of the “Solutions and Services” across multiple sectors, the rigour of “Standards and Systems” applied to get there, and the thoughtfulness of “Ideas and Innovations”. The book ends on lessons learnt from global “Opportunities and Outcomes” and the Group’s commitment to “Nature and Nurture”, applied to talent development and in driving actions in a responsible and sustainable manner. These together form the acronym PASSION, which is the essence of ST Engineering’s theme for the Golden Jubilee, “Engineering with Passion”.
“ST Engineering has been 50 years in the making, alongside Singapore’s growth as a nation. This is why it is important that we capture this slice of Singapore’s history, along with our people’s stories of triumphs, how we surmounted setbacks, and our pioneers’ thinking behind the decisions that define ST Engineering today,” said Vincent Chong, President & CEO of ST Engineering. “Through this book, we also want our younger generation who aspire one day to become outstanding engineers, to be inspired and to accomplish even greater engineering heights.”
While 24,000 copies of Engineering With Passion have been printed to be distributed to ST Engineering staff and partners, the public will be able to access hardcopies of the book at the National Library or electronic copies on the company’s website (www.stengg.com) soon.
