Maritime Survivability Expertise Rounds Out DA-Group Offering
Finnish technology concern DA-Group announced on 19 October it has acquired Surma Ltd, a leading developer of naval combat survivability solutions. The acquisition will strengthen the group’s ability to participate in significant Finnish and international naval programmes. Surma will continue to operate as a subsidiary with its own brand, and existing management and staff.
Together the companies aim to develop a stronger international market position as a leading naval technology service provider. The clear thrust of the new joint operation is the development and offering of modern underwater technologies, which combine the expertise and know-how of both companies in response to rapidly growing technology challenges in naval environments.
“The acquisition is a logical step that will help expand the services for the needs of the defence sector. Our aim is to combine the two top companies’ capabilities to offer comprehensive naval defence solutions for domestic and international customers. With the acquisition, DA-Group also gets an office at Surma’s premises in the centre of Helsinki,” observed DA-Group CEO, Sam Kotiniemi, pointing out that the companies have already cooperated successfully in demanding projects.
Surma’s CEO, Kristian Tornivaara, is enthusiastic about the partnership.
“DA-Group is a growing Finnish defence technology corporation that is aiming at the international markets. DA-Group’s technology strategy supports the development of Surma and it also brings important resources to Surma. In turn, Surma will provide DA-Group a strong addition in the areas of naval and underwater technology solutions. Surma’s international network and expertise will increase the joint ability to develop and grow the business. We strongly believe that the acquisition significantly increases our capabilities to support our customers,” added Surma CEO, Kristian Tornivaara.
