Elbit Systems Subsidiary to Deliver Underwater Sound System to Korea

Test Capability for Harbour Underwater Surveillance System

Elbit Systems announced on 31 May that its Canadian subsidiary, GeoSpectrum Technologies (GTI) has been awarded a contract by STX Engine Company to supply a full end-to-end Underwater Sound Source System (USSS) to the Republic of Korea Navy.

To be delivered by the end of 2018, the USSS is based on GTI’s Towed Acoustic Target, already in service with other navies. It consists of an acoustic projector body, winch, handling package and power amplifier and, according to the company, will be used to test sonar systems for Korea’s Harbour Underwater Surveillance System.

Underwater acoustics equipment, including sonars, acoustic communications and diverse acoustic components, is part of Elbit Systems’ extensive maritime portfolio,” commented Executive Vice President and General Manager of the company’s ISTAR Division, Elad Aharonson. He added that he expects more and more customers to become aware of GTI’s capabilities and seek to leverage them to fulfil mission needs.
