Embedded Solutions Will Enhance Safety and Low Observability
Elbit Systems announced on 6 February it has been awarded a $43 million (€39 million) contract by Hanwha Systems Co to provide embedded terrain following/terrain avoidance (TF/TA) systems for the next generation fighter jet now in development for Korea. The contract will be performed over a six-year period.
Embedding Elbit Systems’ TF/TA solution will enable the aircraft to fly and manoeuvre safely at low altitude, in zero visibility and harsh weather conditions, thereby enhancing their capability to operate undetected in hostile territory. Interfacing with the autopilot system, the TF/TA system to be supplied fuses data from a range of onboard sensors with a digital terrain elevation data base, together with flight performance characteristics, enabling the aircraft to maintain optimal altitude throughout the mission.
