Sensors, EW Suites and Advanced Avionics
Elbit Systems has been awarded four contracts by the Romanian Ministry of National Defense (MND) to furnish aircraft upgrades, EW suites, EO/IR payloads and Brightnite systems for the nation’s IAR 300 helicopter fleet.
The company will integrate the SPECTRO XR payload onto IAR 300 helicopters to enhance the Romanian Navy’s operational capabilities. This contract, which follows a successful upgrade of the service’s IAR helicopters, will be performed over the coming year. A second contract covers supply of a comprehensive EW suite, comprising a radar warning receiver, a laser warning system, an IR missile warning system and a countermeasures dispensing system – all supplied to a domestic concern for installation and integration onto six Puma helicopters, with a future option for an additional six. The contract is a follow-on order to additional EW suites already installed on other Romanian platforms and will be conducted over a three-year period.
A third contract calls for the supply of HDTS type head systems, SPECTRO XR EO systems and an aircraft mission package that includes smart displays, digital maps and reconnaissance systems. The company will also supply Brightnite systems to IAR Brasov for the Romanian Air Force’s Puma 330 SAR helicopters. This contract will be carried out over two years.
Under a fourth contract, Elbit Systems will supply advanced avionic suites, live training embedded virtual avionics system, advanced monitors, overhead display, navigation system and weapons activiation systems to Avioane Craiova, which is upgrading the Air Force’s IAR99 advanced fighter trainer aircraft.
The IAR99 SOIM is an advanced trainer, and the upgrade will support an effective transition of pilots to fighter aircraft, including the F-16. The contract will be carried out over a period of four years. This upgrade programme follows a previous contract for the Romanian Air Force’s trainer aircraft in collaboration with Avioane Craiova, and was awarded approximately 25 years after Elbit Systems’ first contract to upgraded the IAR99 aircraft.
“These contracts extend Elbit Systems’ track record delivering successful projects to the Romanian Armed Forces, including follow-on contracts awarded after Elbit Systems first was contracted to upgrade helicopters and aircraft,” commented EVP International Marketing & Business Development, Ran Kril.
