Integration Over Three Years, Logistics Support for Seven
Elbit Systems has been awarded a contract, valued at approx. $35 million (€31.5 million) to equip the Montenegrin Armed Forces’ Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) with a remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), the company announced on 16 December.
Montenegro has ordered 67 JLTVs from Oshkosh Defense, the first 20 of which are scheduled to be delivered in 2020, making the nation the first European operator of the vehicle. The armed forces will receive 55 JLTVs in basic configuration, eight equipped for an anti-tank role and the remaining four configured as ambulance or command vehicles. Under the terms of the new contract, Elbit Systems will conduct integration of the RCWS over a three-year period and provide logistics support for seven.
The company’s 12.7mm RCWS is lightweight, low silhouette, dual-axis and stabilized, mounted externally onboard armoured vehicles. It offers accurate firing on-the-move and is operated via handles and smart displays by the gunner from within the vehicle, providing full protection for the vehicle crew.
