EID Wins Portuguese Army Software Defined Radio Order

Follow-on Contract Valued at €7.5 Million

EID, a Cohort company, has received an order from the Portuguese Ministry of Defence (MoD), valued at €7.5 million, for the supply of PRC-525 software defined radios (SDR).

The PRC-525 is already in service with the Portuguese Army and Navy. An initial €40 million order was fulfilled in 2015, since when the multiband, multirole, multimode tactical SDR have been used extensively on exercises, operations and peacekeeping missions. Deliveries under this follow-on order are to take place 2017-2023.

The new supply of radios will be integrated in the shelters of Army’s Tactical Communication and Information System (SIC-T), a programme that was approved in May and will be launched shortly.

EID has an established reputation for electronics, tactical communications systems and command and control. The company was acquired by Cohort in 2016.

The PRC-525 enables maximum flexibility in terms of frequency bands, waveforms and functions. The radio is instrumental in building complex systems that provide data routing, switching capability and interfacing to tactical analogue and digital networks, LAN and WAN networks, as well as computers and other data terminal equipment connectivity. It is therefore a great choice for multiple roles, such as network functions and mobile stations for command and control systems. The PRC-525 high-performance digital combat net radio covers HF, VHF and UHF bands with a single piece of equipment. Thanks to different high-speed data modes (including 72kbps OFDM) and protocols as well as different anti-jam modes, it perfectly integrates into secure and high performance tactical communications networks.

Frequency Range of 1.5-512MHz at channel spacing of HF 1Hz, VHF/UHF 1 Hz, 5, 6.25, 8.33, 12.5, 25, 50 kHz and a frequency stability of ± 1 ppm. Frequency Hopping enabled at: SECOM H, SECOM V, HAVE QUICK II (optional).
