168 Missiles and Associated Equipment at $197 Million
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of approval for a possible Foreign Military Sale of the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Block 2 on 16 February. Estimated cost for the missiles and related equipment is $197 million (€163 million).
The Egyptian government has requested up to 168 RIM-116C RAM Block 2 missiles, and associated storage and shipping containers, manuals and technical documentation, engineering, technical and logistics services and programme support.
The proposed sale will support the fast missile craft of the Egyptian Navy and enhance their capabilities in patrol and interdiction operations in Egyptian coastal waters and the approaches to the Suez Canal. Egypt continues to be an important strategic partner to the US in the Middle East.
The principal contractor will be Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD), Tucson, AZ.
