$2.5 Billion in Potential FMS Sales
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency informed Congress of State Department approval for a possible sale of C-130J aircraft and air defence radar systems to Egypt on 25 January.
The Egyptian government has requested 12 C-130J Super Hercules, 60 Rolls-Royce AE-2100D turboprop engines (incl 12 spares) and associated avionics, communications and EW equipment, spares, training and support at an estimated cost of $2.2 billion. The principal contractor is Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.
In addition, Egypt has asked for three SPS-48 land-based air defence radar systems and related equipment, and support, at a total estimated cost of $355 million. Principal contractor will be L3Harris Surveillance Systems.
Both requests have been made and approved through the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) system.
