Rheinmetall LaZ400 Replaces Exiting TI System
Rheinmetall is to equip Dutch FENNEK armoured reconnaissance vehicles with its Lafettenadaptierbares Zielgerät 400 (LaZ400) aiming device to replace the existing thermal imaging system, the company announced on 3 August.
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, FENNEK general contractor, has ordered 246 LaZ400 from Rheinmetall Electronics in an order valued at approx. €36 million. The devices, due to be delivered through 2027, will significantly enhance FENNEK reconnaissance and target engagement capabilities. The replacement falls under the Dutch military’s FENNEK midlife upgrade programme.
Already used in the Bundeswehr’s FLW200 RCWS, the LaZ400 is a tried and tested system. Its colour daylight sensor, thermal imaging sensor and laser rangefinder enable operators to conduct reconnaissance missions around the clock, and to precisely engage targets. With this new order, the number of LaZ400 devices in use will exceed 2,700.
