Acoustic Underwater Comms System Connects Divers, Unmanned Subs and Surface Vessels
DSIT Solutions, the underwater operations specialist subsidiary of Israeli defence firm Rafael, has launched a new acoustic communications system.
WhitePointer allows different below-surface and on-the-surface vessels and users to send and receive voice communications and data reliably. The system includes a synthesised high-power transceiver with preset frequencies, meaning that operators can switch channels quickly without the risk of mistakes. The system can connect surface ships with swimmer delivery vehicles, diver propulsion vehicles, and unmanned underwater systems, whether remotely controlled or autonomous. The system leverages DSIT’s established technology for providing networked communications between different underwater users.
“This innovative acoustic underwater communication system … enables cyber safety and protected underwater networked communication between multiple surface and underwater platforms on the same network,” said Hana Marom, DSIT’s VP of Business Development and Marketing. “The WhitePointer system is an advanced communication suite that supports covert operational missions of multiple maritime vessels as well as tactical missions and search and rescue missions“.
