DSEI 2017: RADA Forging Ahead with New Radar

RADA Electronics expects to complete deliveries of ieMHR S-band radar to Israel

RADA Electronic Industries has told MONS that it will conclude deliveries of its ieMHR S-band (2.3 gigahertz/GHz to 2.5GHz/2.7GHz to 3.7GHz) ground-based air surveillance radar to its Israeli customer by the end of the year. The radar is being used to bolster security along Israel’s border with the Gaza Strip. The radar has been ordered by the Israeli Ministry of Defence (MOD) to plug a ground-based air surveillance radar gap in the national warning network which is managed by the Israeli Air Force for the detection of low altitude, short range and small targets.

The company told MONS that the radar is capable of detecting targets as small as a 81mm artillery shell. According to the firm’s official literature, the ieMHR has a detection range of circa 5.3 nautical miles/nm (ten kilometres/km) for a micro unmanned aerial vehicle target, and up to 53.9nm (100km) for a freighter aircraft-sized target. Moreover, the company added that it is seeing interest in the radar, notably from the UK MOD.
