Evolution in Mortar System Capabilities
EXPAL Systems launched electronic devices E-COMPAX and M-COUNTER, two new technologies to enhance mortar systems’ operational capabilities at DSEI 2019 on 10 September.
E-COMPAX is an electronic aiming device intended to provide firing data to mortars, covering metrics such as orientation and elevation even in a denied or degraded GPS environment. The system reduces the time to bring a mortar into action to only 30 seconds and the after-firing adjustment to less than five. The simple interface and software provide all necessary functionalities for aiming, either in a stand-alone mode (on its own tablet) or integrated into a fire control system.
M-COUNTER is an electronic system designed to increase the safety and ease the maintenance tasks for mortar systems. The system automatically records the number, date and time of shots fired, checks the last maintenance operation and receives manufacturer recommendations for spare parts or shelf-life of different elements. This information is crucial to creating an optimised maintenance plan for each mortar through its life cycle.
These new technologies complete EXPAL’s global solution for mortar systems, consisting of 60, 81 and 120mm weapons, the entire portfolio of ammunition and EIMOS, the 60/81mm mortar system integrated on a high mobility vehicle. The offer also includes technological applications such as the TECHFIRE fire control system, the SHEPERD-MIL mini-UAV used for the forward observation role, the eSIMOX training simulator and eTRAIDS, which provides for easier maintenance and training.
