DSEI 2021 Preview: FN 303 Tactical Less-Than-Lethal

Optimised for Urban and Confined Areas

At DSEI 2021 in London later this month, FN Herstal will showcase the latest innovation in its FN 303 less-than-lethal technology – the FN 303 Tactical less lethal launcher.

Military, law enforcement and security personnel are frequently confronted by aggressive, violent or hostile individuals or groups who may not necessarily be carrying firearms. In such situations, they must be able to deliver an appropriate response without using lethal force.

The FN 303 less lethal system, designed around an impact projectile and a dedicated shoulder-fired launcher, enables temporary neutralisation of an individual or a group with maximum effectiveness and minimum risk of serious or permanent injury or collateral damage. Alongside the already-proven FN 303 less lethal launcher (now in its Mk2 version), selected by over 40 countries to date, the new FN 303 Tactical less lethal launcher, designed based on operator feedback, provides a highly modular and compact solution, while retaining the same terminal effects as the original FN 303 up to 30 metres.

Compact and highly modular are key words for the device. The customer can select from various buttstock types and pistol grips – which are easily and quickly interchangeable. A lateral Picatinny-type rail on the left allows mounting of accessories such as a tactical lamp or laser pointer. A long, compensated Picatinny-type top rail with a 60 MOA angle increases compatibility with optical sights, and mechanical sights come as standard with the launcher.

With an adjustable buttstock, the device does not exceed 508mm in length when folded, while still allowing projectiles to be launched, making it perfect for interventions in confined spaces. Just like the original configuration, the FN 303 Tactical uses compressed air from a detachable and refillable bottle to launch projectiles semi-automatically from a 15-round magazine, allowing rapid multiple engagements with no recoil, no noise, no flash and no pyrotechnics.
