DSEI 2019: IN DANGEROUS GROUND – PLASAN PROTECTS

Focus on Provision of Complete Solutions

The modern battlefield is not a ballistic laboratory, but a dynamic and chaotic environment, in which you do not get to decide what hits you. This year at DSEI Plasan is displaying its latest solutions to defeat high-level threats such as rocket-propelled grenades (RPG), and high explosive mine blasts – the growing dangers that can lethally surprise an under-protected crew.

With expertise not just in ballistic materials, but also vehicle design and engineering, Plasan offers fully integrated solutions for existing and future platforms. Plasan ballistic and blast solutions feature on vehicles such as the General Dynamics Land Systems PIRANHA and the Thales HAWKEI, that has also had the unique passive counter-RPG Hybrid-SlatFence system demonstrated on it. The WARRIOR turret features Plasan’s advanced add-on armour and turret hatches. In fact, Plasan features on many of the world’s leading land and maritime platforms, due to their ability to work closely with original equipment manufacturers and fully integrate solutions onto vehicles, often during the early design phase. It is this capability to provide a complete solution that differentiates Plasan from other armour suppliers.

In the field of protection, Plasan solutions include the TERRA energy-attenuating seats, the T-BAR footpad, composite bar armour HSF and the FLEX FENCE, a unique RPG-7 defeat passive solution. All these solutions can be easily integrated into modern combat vehicles for increased crew protection.

Plasan has been selected to design and produce armor protection for Britain’s new Type 26 frigate. The company’s armour technology will be leveraged to provide the enhanced capability and flexibility required for the Royal Navy’s Type 26 concept.

Plasan also offers system integration services to create an infrastructure for integrating advanced vehicle systems. Each vehicle can be equipped with a system that easily manages a variety of communication, command and control systems that assist in defence and homeland security missions.

The company has designed, developed and manufactured the highly successful SandCat family of 8.5t 4×4 armoured vehicles, which serve police and special forces in 15 countries on five continents. The SandCat is based on a well-proven Ford Super Duty commercial pick-up chassis to reduce through-life costs, To date, Plasan has manufactured over 15 variants of SandCat, tailored to meet specific field conditions.

The most recent family member is the StormRider, a light mine-resistant tactical vehicle, based on the company’s 4th-generation architecture. Built around the same rugged Ford engine and gearbox, the StormRider is the second of the new SandCats engineered as a fully structural monocoque, doing away with a ladder-frame chassis. The new chassis-less design allows the vehicle to achieve a higher level of underbody mine protection without paying the usual price in weight and height. The StormRider maintains the SandCat’s characteristics – easy access 5-door design while adding STANAG 2a/2b mine protection for all 10 soldiers.
