DSEI 2017: Northrop Grumman’s Different Thinking & Solutions that Support the Future Force

Innovative technologies and solutions

Northrop Grumman features innovative technologies and solutions that improve cyber resilience, sustainment and modernisation of complex air and ground systems, and smart ISR on stand S5-310.

With more than 30 years of cyber expertise and substantial investment in national cyber initiatives, Northrop Grumman stands as a dependable, dedicated partner supporting the UK’s information assurance and cyber resilience requirements. Northrop Grumman’s global capability means challenges here are met with cutting-edge innovation.

BioSled represents a paradigm shift in biometric capture devices with the intent to set the standard for biometric capture hardware for the next generation of devices. The Android smartphone-based, single-form factor device offers multi-modal biometric capture and onboard watchlist matching. The Secure Communications System is a suite of cyber secure mobile communications products that provide single and multiple users — up to 150 — the ability to communicate securely anywhere in the world, using any IP network, such as cellular, satellites, Ethernet and Wi-Fi, safely and securely.
Supporting and modernising complex air systems are critical to maintaining a capability edge over adversaries. Northrop Grumman’s expertise in logistics, stealth, communications, avionics, sensors and advance manufacturing supports and modernises some of the most advanced systems in the world.

Northrop Grumman and Northrop Grumman’s Joint Sentry Support Team provide aircraft maintenance, engineering and logistics support to the SENTRY fleet at Royal Air Force (RAF) Waddington and at worldwide forward deployed locations as required. SABR optimises radar system performance within existing power and cooling allocations of legacy F-16s worldwide and will make these F-16 fleets relevant for decades to come. SABR began flying in 2008 and continues to build an unmatched record of successful “firsts” with flight demonstrations now including proven performance in advanced combat-relevant tests.

The Smart ISR mission focus is all about transforming situation awareness for strategic advantage. Optimal C4ISR capability gives political, strategic and operational commanders the information they need for informed decisions. An integrated network of manned and unmanned intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems transforms situational awareness, decision making and action.

The MQ-4C TRITON UAS provides wide-area persistent surveillance across vast areas of ocean and coastal areas. The system is capable of monitoring 1 million square miles of Open Ocean in a single mission, providing near real-time information to military and civil units.

The X-47B Unmanned Combat Aircraft System is a great capability that demonstrated the first autonomous takeoff and landing on an aircraft carrier in 2013. Earlier this year, the system also completed the first autonomous aerial refuelling. These two accomplishments have shown how an unmanned aircraft can extend carrier-based operations far beyond the horizon through a stealthy-capable platform.

Northrop Grumman provides a range of integrated solutions across the battlespace, many of which take advantage of the company’s cutting-edge sensor technologies architecture solutions. These rapidly configurable, upgradeable capabilities can be integrated into, and extend the life and utility of, existing systems to meet the varied challenges of emerging threat environments. Applying key technologies combats the proliferation of complex threats to air, land and maritime assets.

In addition, using sophisticated sensor systems and unmanned capabilities reduces the dangers associated with manned operations. As a global leader in full-spectrum cyber, Northrop Grumman provides assurance and protection against increasingly pervasive cyber threats. The ANDROS FX builds on Remotec’s F6 family and its 20-year record as a workhorse for first responders and the military. Like other robots in Remotec’s ANDROS fleet, its operating system provides much greater information to the operator while easing user workload through more interactivity with intelligent payloads such as chemical and radiation sensors. Preset arm positions and the ability to “fly the gripper” make manipulation of objects much easier, faster and more accurate.

A highly mobile multi-mission radar system designed to fully support worldwide expeditionary requirements, Northrop Grumman’s AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR system provides multi-faceted detection and tracking capabilities to enable engagement of a wide range of hostile threats, and offers robust air traffic control capabilities to ensure the safety of Marines worldwide.
