SME Ordnance (SMEO) as partner
At DSA 2018 held in Kuala Lumpur this week, officials from Malaysian company SME Ordnance (SMEO) provided an update on the supply of Colt carbines to the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP).
SMEO has a partnership with Colt, which includes a license to manufacture and supply regionally the Colt M4 carbine along with supplying Colt’s line of firearms in Malaysia. The company has already completed the supply of over 100,000 Colt M4s to the Malaysian Armed Forces and is now aiming to supply the RMP and other government agencies with Colt firearms. Company officials said that SMEO had supplied 200 7.62mm CM-901 (Colt Modular) rifles for the RMP units operating under the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) while 500 5.56mm Colt APC (Advance Piston Carbine) had been supplied to the RMP’s VAT 69 commando unit.
The company is currently in the process of supplying 15,000 5.56mm Colt ACC-M (Advanced Colt Carbine-Monolithic) to the RMP’s General Operations Force under a five year contract in which 3,000 ACC-Ms will be delivered annually.
