Rentaka 4×4 in Testing with Royal Malaysian Police
Malaysia’s Mildef International Technologies unveiled a new 4×4 APC at DSA 2022 in Kuala Lumpur this week.
Named Rentaka, the vehicle can accommodate 10 personnel (including the driver), is equipped with an RCWS mounting a 12.7mm machinegun, and sports armour offering an NIJ BIII ballistic protection level. Locally-designed and -developed, it is powered by a 330hp V8 turbo diesel, boasts a payload capacity of 1,000kg and a laden weight of 8,845.
A company representative told MON that it will pitch the new APC to the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) as well as marketing it overseas. The vehicle, which is undergoing testing with the RMP, is mainly intended for use by RMP special forces and for border patrol missions.
The Rentaka is currently based on a Ford F-550 chassis, but future variants are expected to feature a locally-developed chassis and powerpack. The design of the vehicle is modular, meaning that other versions of the vehicle could be developed for military use, including mortar carriers or artillery prime movers, said the company official.
