DroneShield Receives First Significant Order for DroneGun

$3.2 Million Order from Middle Eastern MoD

Droneshield announced on 13 June that it has received an order for 70 DroneGuns from the Ministry of Defence of an unidentified Middle Eastern country.

The order, which was secured by the company’s distributor, Zariba Security, is valued at $3.2million and is not only the largest order in Droneshield’s history but is believed to be the largest order of its kind in the industry, globally, to date. This is significant, since the drone detection and mitigation industry is only several years old, and allocations of substantial governmental funding for anti-drone equipment purchases have only commenced in the last 12 months. Further significant orders are believed to be “in the pipeline,” according to the company.

“Larger defence prime contractors and security integrators are looking to ascertain which companies emerge as the winners in the anti-drone ‘arms race.’ This order places DroneShield at the forefront of the industry and is likely to have a substantial positive effect on DroneShield’s corporate discussions with larger industry players,” observed the company’s CEO, Oleg Vornik.

 his order comes against the backdrop of significantly intensified inimical drone activity in the Middle East. A selection of incidents reported in the region since January includes:

  • Interception of Iranian drones by both Israel and the UAE;
  • A drone attack on a Saudi Aramco facility by Yemeni Houthi rebels;
  • The downing of a drone in the vicinity of a royal palace in Saudi Arabia;
  • An attempted attack on a Saudi Arabian airport.

DroneShield’s ability to fulfil the order requires the approval of a US regulator, the company revealed, though it expects to receive such approval “in the next two months, using the established US defence product sale approval process.” It also points out that such approval is not required for every country that might place orders.
