Largest Single Order in Kongsberg History
At DIMDEX 2018 in Doha Kongsberg has announced the establishment of a new company, BK Systems, in collaboration with the Qatari authorities. Headquartered in the Qatar Science and Technology Park, an innovation hub for international industrial and academic collaboration, the company aims to support long-term technology development programmes in the defence, maritime and digital domains.
The first programme the new company is addressing is the delivery of communications, digitalisation and remote weapon station (RWS) solutions for the 490 armoured vehicles to be delivered to Qatar by Nexter. With a potential value of approx. NOK15 billion (US$1.95 billion) over the next eight years, this is the largest single order in Kongsberg’s history. The company will deliver the PROTECTOR RWS – a leading vehicle protection solution with close to 20,000 systems delivered to 19 nations – and the MEDIUM CALIBRE TURRET, a further development in remote protection currently under delivery to the US Army. Additionally, Kongsberg will deliver integrated communications and digitalisation solutions for the new vehicle fleet.
