Aimed at Improving TYPHOON Capabilities
On 26 April Diehl Defence and Boeing announced their cooperation on the GBU-54 Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) for Germany.
The GBU-54 is a precision munition consisting of a MK-82 series 500lb warhead coupled to a Boeing Laser JDAM guidance kit. The system’s combination of GPS/INS navigation, laser seeker and target designation enable both stationary and moving targets to be engaged in adverse weather conditions. The combat-proven system has already been integrated onto the TORNADO and is now being offered to improve the air-to-ground capability of the Eurofighter TYPHOON.
The partners seek to offer the Bundeswehr two principal advantages: use of one of the most modern weapon systems currently available, plus on-site support from a national missile system house with experience in the management of inventory and integration of equipment and weapon systems on a range of aircraft, including the TYPHOON.
