Up to 120,000 CompM5 Sights Over Six Years
On 17 July the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA – France’s defence procurement authority) awarded a contract to a consortium consisting of Aimpoint and Heckler & Koch France for the supply of red dot sights for the new HK416 F French assault rifle.
The contract covers the supply of up to 120,000 CompM5 sights over a period of six years. The CompM5 sight is the latest offering from the leader in reflex sighting technology, Aimpoint AB. Compact, lightweight and rugged, it will further increase the capabilities of the French soldier equipped with the new HK416 F assault rifle.
The CompM5 is a non-magnifying (1x) optic with a +/- of 3%. The CompM5 is designed to work with the Aimpoint 3xMag-1 and 6xMag-1 magnifiers. Aimpoint’s optics will equip the 93,000 HK416 Fs, which will be delivered between now and 2028.
This optic order number is well in excess of the original confirmed order of 93,080 rifles, however, this number is bound to be increased as the French Army currently has around 400,000 FAMAS. It is believed that the French Army will reuse some of its SCROME J4, which is a 4x power optic, but some of these will be used by the FAMAS which will remain in service with the National Guard (Garde Nationale).
