Delivery of BOXER GTK to Bundeswehr Now Complete

405 Vehicles Delivered to Date

ARTEC, the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann/Rheinmetall joint venture, has formally handed over the last BOXER armoured transport vehicle (GTK) to the Bundeswehr, the company announced on 23 June.

The 131 vehicles in the second batch, contracted in December 2015, were valued at €478 million and were all of the A2 variant, incorporating feedback from users, including experience gained in operating the vehicle in Afghanistan. Although the pandemic affected delivery dates, constructive and pragmatic cooperation between industry and customer led to contractual deadlines being met.

To date, the ARTEC partner companies have delivered 405 BOXERs to the Bundeswehr, including 72 in the ambulance configuration, 65 command vehicles and 256 infantry vehicles. A combat upgrade programme agreed in 2017 provides for all German BOXERs to be modified to the A2 standard. Earlier this year an upgrade of command vehicles to the A2 standard was agreed, with the result that 65 BOXER command vehicles to the modified configuration will be available from 2024.
