DefExpo 2020: Nexter Focuses on Full Range of Ammunition

Land and Naval Munitions and Ancillaries on Show

At DefExpo 2020 in Lucknow this week, Nexter will focus visitor attention on its wide range of ammunition, including that manufactured by its Belgian and Italian subsidiaries, Mecar and Simmel Difesa respectively.

In recent months, all three Indian armed services have placed contracts with Nexter for medium-calibre, artillery and naval ammunition, confirming the nation’s position as a major and strategically important partner. Nexter seeks to support the growth of ammunition manufacture in India to the highest standards of performance and safety, under the government’s ‘Make in India’ policy.

The main items of interest, taking recent procurement activity into account, can be grouped into three categories:

Artillery ammunition – Nexter offers a complete range of 155mm artillery ammunition, including latest-generation explosive ordnance, illuminating and smoke payloads, SPACIDO trajectory correction fuses, smart precision ammunition (BONUS precision anti-tank shells, KATANA precision guided ammunition, currently under development) and modular charges currently in service in India. It should be noted that all these munitions comply with the NATO JBMoU standard and are compatible with the majority of modern 155/52, 155/45 and 155/39 calibre systems.

Naval ammunition – through its Italian subsidiary, Nexter is also a leader in supply of naval ammunition, with a complete range of ammunition for 40L70 and 76mm guns. The development of the FB769 multimode programmable fuse (offering proximity, gated proximity, airburst and point detonating modes), coupled with the 40mm PFFC ammunition, offers performance against a wider range of targets, especially in anti-aircraft use.

Land ammunition – Nexter’s offer also includes an improved performance 30mm kinetic energy penetrator armour-piercing round for the BMP2 infantry fighting vehicle, as well as an 84mm infantry munition for recoilless systems.
