Long Term Collaboration on Surface and Submarine Programmes

DCNS and PT PAL signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 30 March to strengthen their cooperation in both submarine and surface vessel fields, in accordance with the Indonesian-French Defence Dialogue and following President Hollande’s recent visit to Indonesia.

Indonesia is seeking to increase its naval capacity and is exploring with France the possibility of building surface warships and submarines in country with a high degree of indigenous content in collaboration that is intended to be long term. In recent years, encouraged by both governments, the two companies have been strengthening their collaboration to the point at which they are able to offer a multipurpose submarine derived from the latest generation of the SCORPENE family. Similar projects for corvettes and frigates are now under examination.
