Aero India 2017: Dassault Systèmes Showcases 3DEXPERIENCE

Accelerate Programmes up to 50% from Concept to Take-off

Dassault Systèmes, a leader in 3D design software, digital mock up and product lifecycle management solutions, is showcasing its 3DEXPERIENCE platform solution for aerospace and defence applications at Aero India 2017 in Bangalore this week. Within the theme “Accelerate Programmes up to 50% from Concept to Take-off,” the company highlighted key trends and current challenges in the industry, such as production backlog, supply chain issues and additive manufacturing.

The company demonstrated several critical processes supporting aerospace programmes and improving production flexibility, supplier profitability and overall product performance. These demonstrations included CATIA Functional Generative Designer (GDE) for increasing aircraft performance, with which companies can develop more lightweight, reliable components. This application transforms the fundamental approach for mechanical engineers across the industry. It makes it uniquely possible to address the end-to-end process of developing additive manufactured parts. One transformative approach is the ability to perform trade-studies at the part level. This is made possible with an automated design process based on constraints and objectives that may be applied not only to additive manufacturing process, but also to traditional subtractive manufacturing.

The “Future Factory” demonstration at the GIFAS pavilion illustrated how digital continuity across planning and operations allows manufactures to enhance production flexibility, increase rate, improve quality and determine the ideal mix between robotic and human resources on the shop floor. This demonstration takes a new approach to what has been to date treated as two distinct processes – production planning and production operations, – delivering a single continuously improving process.

The supplier-dedicated “Engineered to Fly” industry solution experience is aimed at winning more business and delivering projects on time through increased efficiency with digital continuity across the complete value stream. With access to the latest engineering project data as well as the ability to search and re-use previous proposals, suppliers can respond more precisely to more bids and win more business. Once the bid is won, real-time project execution, predefined templates, automated processes and controlled execution of secure intellectual property contribute to the outcome of on-time delivery while collaborating with multiple OEMs.

The fourth demo was a further illustration of the “Future Factory” approach, showing where the shop floor may soon be. With the aim of making it easier for each individual on the shop floor to access and use information, Dassault Systèmes presented an example of enhanced situational awareness using 3D augmented reality. Highly qualified technicians most often perform on-site maintenance and repair. With mobile augmented reality using the Microsoft HoloLens, hands-free step-by-step guidance provides just-in-time and right-in-place work instructions in the field. Even technicians with basic knowledge are empowered to execute standard routines as well as exigent tasks reliably, timely and safely.

Commenting on the company’s participation at Aero India 2017, Samson Khaou, Managing Director-India, Dassault Systèmes, said, “Aero India over the years has continued to grow, emerging as Asia’s premier air show. With India projected to be the third-largest aviation market by 2026 and initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and defence manufacturing bringing in new opportunities for the sector in India, we see great potential in working with several Indian aerospace and defense companies as well as multinational players.”
