Curtiss-Wright to Deliver Turret Drive System for Australian CRV

Solution Delivers Over 50% Australian Content

Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions Division announced on 4 June that it has ben contracted by Rheinmetall Defence Australia to deliver its Turret Drive Servo System (TDSS) for the Australian Defence Force Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) programme in progress under Project Land 400 Phase 2. Current plans indicate delivery will run through 2026.

The company will deliver 133 TDSS and associated hand-controllers, incorporating Australian Industry Content of over 50%, as a result of engagement activities with local industry over the last three years. The technology, globally unique, is patented by Curtiss-Wright. Designed at Curtiss-Wright’s Drive Technology facility in Switzerland, production of a significant number of power circuit boards and chassis kits for the TDSS will be conducted in Australia. With this strong commitment to Australian Industry, the company has applied its state-of-the-art identification and evaluation process to select qualified local suppliers. Initial deliveries of PCB and chassis kits have already been made. An MoU with selected suppliers is anticipated in Q2/2020, which will be followed by technology transfer, onsite support and training, then series production in Australia early next year. Final assembly will be conducted at Rheinmetall’s new Military Vehicle Center of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) facility in Redbank, Queensland.

This contract marks a significant Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle design win for our cost-effective, scalable Turret Drive Servo System and our commitment to incorporate local industry partners into this program,” commented Lynn Bamford, President of the company’s Defense and Power segments. “Curtiss-Wright believes this agreement will foster and sustain a new partner-network in Australia […] In turn, we hope a strong partner-network creates an environment supporting new jobs and enables Curtiss-Wright and Rheinmetall to support Land 400 Phase 2 with significant Australian industrial content.”
