COTS Counter-Drone Defeat Solution

The Defence Community Meets Invisible Interdiction’s GHOUL Tool Product Line

One of the technology “finds” at this Modern Day Marine was a counter-UAS product line being introduced to this sector by Melbourne, Florida (US)-based Invisible Interdiction. GHOUL Tool is a commercial off-the-shelf product line of counter-drone defeat solutions, using radio frequency defeat technologies, designed for military services and agencies in the adjacent public sector. Avoiding some of the dramatics in movies and other media, where errant or hostile unmanned air vehicles meet fiery, definitive endings with kinetic weapons, GHOUL Tool, “is trying to break the radio link between the drone pilot, wherever he or she is, and the drone itself,Clay Wild, the Corporate President said. “And we are either going to send the drone away by using its lost link protocol or we will also jam its navigation systemme and force it to land.”

One module viewed by MONCh was the GHOUL Tool Full Spectrum handheld, which the corporate leader described as, “lightweight (less than 5lbs [2.3kg]), single-switch operation and set up for single-handed operation, which in theory, would allow the deployed serviced member to keep and use their rifle, and defeat a drone at the same time.”

Mr Wild emphasised the, “best part” of RF jamming is it is very effective at short- or long ranges. The industry expert also addressed an issue of concern at the policy makers level. “While these commercial drones are operating on some of the same parts of the spectrum as your Blue Tooth device or WiFi router at the home or office, it is not destructive.”

As a result, when any public sector agency needs to put effects onto a drone, flying near an airport or other critical infrastructure or public gathering, the GHOUL Tool is not damaging to the environment. Any interruptions to other devices in the same part of the spectrum are temporary.

The hand-held device viewed at the company booth was designed to be set up and ready to operate in 30 seconds. The “low power” GHOUL Tool Full Spectrum handheld is battery operated, able to use the same batteries as found in radios, and other military and public sector agencies’ materiel.

Beyond being at MDM to educate and inform the military about the GHOUL Tool product line, Invisible Interdiction envisions Ghoul Tool modules used by other public sector agencies – law enforcement and others.

Invisible Interdiction is scheduled to demonstrate its portfolio this November at Fort AP Hill, Virginia. And noting NATO nations have similar counter-UAS tasks to consider when operating in combined or unilateral missions, or defending their homelands, Mr Wild added, “We will be working in Europe as much as we can afford the time.”

GHOUL Tool Full Spectrum handheld requires a license to export.

Mr Wild concluded, “We’re backed up by an American supply chain – 30-day delivery is no problem for us.”
