UK MOD takes delivery of new radios to equip cadet force
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that it’s new Mercury Radio System (MRS) has reached full operational capability with the British Army’s Cadet Force.
A number of products were procured to fulfil the MRS requirement including Elbit Systems’ PRC-710 very high frequency (30 megahertz/MHz to 300MHz) handheld radios and amplifiers, of which the firm delivered over 3,000, plus 150 of the firm’s PRC-720 PATHFINDER high frequency (3-30MHz), alongside accompanying accessories.
A press release from Elbit Systems announcing the news added that the MoD had performed some local customisation of the radios regarding hardware and software, and that Drumgrange, a British systems engineering firm, was also involved in the provision of the MRS. The release added that the MRS has been procured by the MOD to provide signals training, field craft and command and control capabilities to the force.
