SAS2018: US Navy’s CMV-22B Programme Update

US Navy League Sea-Air-Space Exposition Day 2 (10 April 2018) Mid-Day Report

The US Navy’s variant of the Bell Boeing V-22 OSPREY that will serve as the future carrier onboard delivery (COD) aircraft – replacing the C-2A GREYHOUND – is designated the CMV-22B. The new programme continues its ambitious list of milestones in order to achieve full operational capability in fiscal year (FY) 2024.

With critical design review completed, production of the CMV-22B will begin this fiscal year with delivery in FY20. CMV-22B initial operational capability and first deployment will occur in FY21. The public affairs officer for PMA 275(V-22)/PMA 276(H-1) at the US Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command, added: “CMV-22B full operational capability and ‘sundown’ of the C-2A aircraft will occur in FY24.”

She confirmed the navy’s programme of record, “reflects 48 Navy V-22 aircraft; however the Navy procurement objective to support the C-2A GREYHOUND to CMV-22B OSPREY transition is 44 aircraft.”
