Upgrade Kits Will Equip HALIFAX-Class Frigates
Saab is to supply an unspecified number of SEA GIRAFFE AMB (agile multi beam) radar antenna kits to the Royal Canadian Navy for its HALIFAX class frigates.
The upgrade work will be carried out in Halifax, Canada, and Gothenburg, Sweden, over the next five years. The contract includes the antenna kits, associated equipment, and spare parts. Saab says the value is in excess of SEK300million (€29million).
The SEA GIRAFFE AMB, which has a range of up to 180km, is in use with the US Navy on its INDEPENDENCE-class littoral combat ships and the Republic of Singapore Navy, on the upgraded VICTORY-class corvettes. It has also been ordered by a number of other navies. The RCN has previously selected the radar for its two PROTECTEUR-class joint support vessels, the first of which is due to be delivered in 2023.
