High-Resolution X-Ray Used for Inspection Every Two Years
Bw Bekleidungsmanagement (BWBM) has increased its capacity for the testing and repair of body armour in its Haren processing centre to meet the increased requirements of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr).
Ballistic protection for dismounted soldiers is of the utmost importance – and so, therefore, is the test and repair of the systems when required. Now, members of the Bundeswehr hand their protective vests over to one of 65 BWBM service stations for testing every two years. In recent months, the federally-owned organisation has invested in its own high-resolution X-ray machine to facilitate this process and make it more efficient.
Vests are disassembled, X-rayed, cleaned, repaired and reassembled at Haren before being fed back into the Bundeswher’s material cycle. The investment at Haren means that BWBM is now able to do this safely, reliably and cost-effectively: it has also increased its capacity to be able to deal with 17,000 protective vests per year. The deciated facility was formally opened on 20 July.
